HCYA vs Klein Cain vs Klein Forest - extra note
I wanted to send a little extra note to the previous email. What a blast last night! Touchpads, and Scoreboards and fast swims, oh my!
Our JV Team represented HCYA in true Warrior fashion. Even with less than half the Klein Cain swimmers, our ladies posted a whopping 30 points over the 2nd place Lady Hurricanes while our men, well outnumbered, posted so many 1st places that they fell just 5 points short of besting their competitors. Combined our team placed first against both Klein Cain and the unexpected Klein Forest team.
I was pleasantly surprised to have two of our Varsity Captains, Lexi Petsch and Josiah Cheng-Guajardo join our group to cheer on our team and to assist with splits! Lexi won our challenge of matching the touchpad time to her stopwatch time. She's a natural!
Well done Warriors!
A little fun story-time note but good read (at least I think so): Thanks to Shelley Willetts and her relationship with a booster club parent (Personal contact #1), she got us in contact with the Klein Cain coach (new Personal contact #2) which made this meet happen and ended up as a night was full of surprises.
Upon entering the facility I was greeted by a former coach from my club team. I helped Coach Liz Botkin (Personal contact #3) get started with coaching here in the Houston area! She is now the assistant coach at Cain!
I also got to catch up with the new Klein Forest Coach, which happens to be the former Westfield High School Coach, Leann Marrs (Theiss) (Personal Contact #4)! I knew Coach Marrs through my summer league swim team, but HCYA was introduced to Coach Marrs through the Barnett family which practiced with her group in the evenings. The Barnett's knew our program founder, Pete Coxon, from church (more personal contacts)! HCYA used to do an annual legacy meet with Coach Marrs as a thank you to help our little team get competition and get going as a team. The last 2 seasons we had missed out on these meets due to conflicting schedules but it was great to catch up and we now have a meet invite for next season.
The evening wasn't over with surprises. At the conclusion of the meet, Blake Barnett, an official at the meet, approached Shelley and me to introduce himself (Personal contact # ???? ... I've stopped counting). Naturally we recognized the name Barnett from our former member, Brooke Barnett, and team sponsor (High School Math Live!). Blake is a former HCYA and inaugural HCYA Warrior team alumni! Our first year on HCYA with my eldest son Cameron (2014) was Blake's final HCYA season! He has offered his volunteer services as an official to continue with our great group next season!
All this to say that one contact through Shelley grew into so much more. When we say that personal contacts make the difference, we aren't kidding! They are the difference in getting meets every season. Thanks Shelley!!! We need more of your friends list. LOL
Have a great Friday and I'll see some of you guys tomorrow. For all others have a great weekend filled with SAT's, choir concerts, club meets and general relaxation!
